At the beginning of the 20th century, the works of well-know Kyiv architect Wladyslaw Horodecki were often represented on the postcards from Kyiv: the Museum of Antiques and Art, the 6-storey “skyscraper”, the Karaite Kenesa, the St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Cathedral. But Horodecki became famous when his own house was constructed on the steep slope of Bankova Street in Kyiv.
