The Military Academy in St. Petersburg and life there seemed to be unbearable to him, as well as serving in the Proskuriv garrison. When he returned from St. Petersburg to Kyiv, he submitted a request for resignation. Kuprin tried to be a newspaper employee, a construction manager, an actor, a chief accountant in a forge, a mover, a dental technician, a gymnastics teacher and even a fisherman. Et cetera, et cetera… He wanted “to see everything, to know everything, to be able to do everything and to write about everything”. The literary career of Oleksandr Kuprin began in Kyiv.
