The happy family life of Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi was marred by dull prosiness of the provincial contemporary town Chernihiv . He wished to escape from the monotony of his service in Chernihiv and enjoy new impressions and feelings. Unexpected joy was brought to the life of Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi when he met Oleksandra Aplaksina, an officer of the statistics bureau. Though, that brought him not only joy, but pain as well.
