Vasyl Stefanyk, the outstanding Ukrainian writer, was born in Rusiv village in Pokuttia area, in the family of a wealthy peasant Semen Stefanyk, who was a descendant of the Zaporizhzhian Cossacks. His childhood and adolescence were not easy. But those years defined strong character of the future writer. The first years of studies, the first attempts in writing – the future writer went through all that in Rusiv, Sniatyn and Kolomyia.
