The first head of Kyiv University of Saint Volodymyr (now Taras Shevchenko University) Mykhailo Maksymovych was a scientist of an encyclopedic knowledge. He dedicated himself to scientific work, and left a lot of works on botany, zoology, physics and philology, geography, ethnography and philosophy, history and archaeology. At first, his personal life was not successful. Mykhailo could not marry a woman he dreamt about and whom he affectionately called “Nymphaea Candida” meaning ‘the white lily’. The reason was that she was already engaged. But before her death, Nymphaea Candida made him promise to marry her dowerless daughter, who was 30 years younger than him. Find out about the story of true love and family happiness of the Maksymovych family – in the documentary series “The Game of Fate” by VIATEL Studio narrated by Natalka Sopit.
